The essence of the method, developed by Valery Shmelev, is as follows: a foreign language text on a given topic is generated, and a number of foreign words in the text are processed using a special algorithm—the letters in the words are randomly rearranged (the result is gibberish). The student reads the text in a foreign language, encounters an unfamiliar word, and tries to form a word from the letters. This promotes effective retention of the learning material.
